About the Author

Steve Anderson, Author or Preparing to BuildIn addition to authoring both Preparing to Build and Abundant Giving, I am also co-author of From Dream to Dedication. I’ve been a church building consultant and church capital campaign consultant since the late 90’s. Equally at home at a computer, in a board room, or behind the pulpit, I combine God-given experience and wisdom with a plainspoken manner to help churches achieve their vision and mission.

I have served as a church building consultant with church building projects all over the USA and into Canda. I have successfully worked for churches as small as 65 people trying to get into their first church building and projects as expensive as $15,000,000. I have been the church capital campaign consultant for campaigns as small as a $200,000 large as $10,000,000.

From Humble Beginnings

In the mid-90’s I was “volunteered” to serve as the building committee chairperson of our church plant that was then meeting in a school. Knowing I did not really know much about how to build a church, I began an odyssey of learning that continues even to this day. One of the things that I quickly discovered was that there were few available resources and little objective help to be had, especially if you were not part of a mainline denomination. During that process, God called me out of my corporate VP position to minister to His church. A few years later I wrestled with whether the Lord was calling to the pastorate, but after much prayer and seeking of counsel, I determined the Lord was directing me not to minister a church, but minister to His ministers. My mission has become one of ministry to the church and its leadership in this important area. Ultimately, my goal is to help the church achieve its mission of winning more souls and discipling more saints in the time we have before the return of our Lord.

In 2006, I founded my own church consulting firm, AMI Church Consulting Services. I also serve as a volunteer consultant for the Church Planning and Building team at The NC Baptist Convention as part of their congregational services offering. In addition to being a church building and fundraising consultant, I am an author and a seminar speaker, and have filled many roles in the church, including: administrator, treasurer, building committee chairperson, capital campaign chairperson, (all prior to becoming a consultant), teacher of adult small groups and both adult and children’s Sunday School, helped in the sound booth, ushered, and have changed diapers.

I currently reside in Clayton NC with wife Candace and the remainder of 7 boys who have not yet left home.
